i'm being tempted again. 240d manual
guys,
this is a disease. i am being offered a 80 240d manual tranny car. it is sitting in storage right now. the only thing missing is the front and back windshield. all else works fine. it is white with blue leather interior. i have the glass from my current parts car that should fit. the guy wants $300 . he needs to sell because the lease is up on the storage. he said he put $1200 on the motor whatever that hell that means. so for $300 plus the labor on the glass. i was thinking it would be nice to have 2 240d's around but... please help me justify this potential purchase. up to this point in my life i have always looked towards purchases as follows... "if something is on sale for 75% off but you don't need it but buy it anyway then you just overpaid by 25%" i need help justifying this any ideas?

Pick that puppy up, before it ends up in a recyclers yard.

So $300 for the car plus maybe another $300 to swap the glass over (use new seals, please). Silly girl, that's only two months of car payments and you'd have a spare car!! What are you waiting for?

I live in the boondocks and have plenty of places to hide parts cars. If you can keep one as a parts car, it is worth it is easy. This does not mean that I propose that you use it as a parts car, but if need be, it would be worth it for that purpose alone.
Since I don't drive a 123 car any more, I can't justify them anymore, but I enjoyed every mile that I drove a manual transmission 240D. Don't crush it, restore it. Good luck, |

Uh, they're wonderful, and they don't make them anymore...
I'd pick it up and glaze it...for that price, you can ALWAYS flip it and get your money back.
I've narrowed my ambitions to just having enough W123s to have one available to drive for the rest of my life. As it is, I have three more diesels than the Baltimore & Ohio. |

It's $'s in the bank. An investment. Diesels are coming into their own with gas prices going up so fast. Diesel is too, but you can run these on waste oil or Bio-D which will soon be cheaper than Diesel and you can make it at home for about $1/gallon. No gas car can do that. There's not a man here who wouldn't think even MORE of you if you buy it and get it on the road. .....hold on..., I'm coming up with more, just give me a few minutes.......

JenTay,
It's funny, I just bought a 240 with an automatic from Clayton, NC, just outside of Raleigh. I didn't need the car, but figured that since I have a motor to put in it, I would buy it as it was only 100 bucks and doesn't run. I did buy it off EBay with the worst description I have seen, but e-mailed the guy and liked his response. Go for it, I don't think you'll regret it as long as you have a place to put it. Th manual alone is worth that! Adam Bush |

I don't need a new car but I would nab that on the spot! Even if you don't want it or need it, you could probably put the glass in and sell it for $1400.

I am also of the opinion that you shouldn't pass this one up. Put in glass and clean it up. If you don't want to keep it, you can sell it on eBay for at least $1500.
But what do I know? I bought a Hilton timeshare in Orlando 2 weeks ago.
