Turning the ALDA up CCW will not harm the engine if the IP is set properly.

A good strong 5-cylinder 300D with ALDA adjustment should leap off the line and wind out at higher revs(as the boost starts cutting back); say above 4400 rpms.

IMHO, the ALDA adjustment provides more than enough "oomph" to both put a smile on your face, and get you out of trouble.
