faded door handles black again
I tried all the tricks some that have been posted here and lots of different products to try and get the faded exterior door handles on my 126's back to a decent black color, yes including peanut butter.
While rummaging around in my junk I found an old can of Dupont black vinyl top wax, I pryed it open and it was still soft and fresh. It's Black colered wax and as I was giving my cars a good spring cleaning and waxing I tried some on the faded door handles after three or four coats they look good, that was a few days ago so will let you all know how it holds up. I'm not sure if they even make it anymore but I'm going to look in some of the bigger auto parts stores. It really dose make the car look better........ William Rogers........ |

bumper/door handle renew
I can't recall who makes it, but there is a product called Bumper Black that comes in a spray can. I used to own an old Saab (and I sobbed all the time with the repairs) that the rear hatch handle had faded out to almost a light grey. I got some of this and actually used a paint brush to brush it on for neatness and it instantly turned the handle back black. The day I traded the car, the handle was still black. I will look up the company and post another one later with the information. If I recall, I picked it up at a local Autozone or Advance Auto.

Try some stuff called "Black Again." It's a dressing not a paint but it worked great on the faded black trim on my 944.

I tried the peanut butter too... damn squirrels ate the handles right down to the metal..... glad I had an " untreated " parts car around.....

I'm not sure that the door handles were ever black to begin with...I believe they were a deep charcoal color when new. I use Meguiar's tire dressing on mine--easy to dispense and work into the plastic, good results and relatively long-lasting.
