Fuses?
About how much would a brand new set of fuses for a US version W126 cost? I've decided since one fuse went bad, it's about time to replace all of the fuses.

$5.00

H-town,
That's ridiculous: Replacing all the fuses because one went bad. That's like replacing all the light bulbs in your house because 1 burned out. Ever hear if it ain't broke don't fix it? Guess you want to fix it until it is broken. P E H |

BTW- how exactly do you fix something until it is broken? -Joe |
It's only a few dollars for all of the fuses you need. Ideally you want to use ceramic fuses with copper, as was installed at the factory, since the fuse holders are copper as well. Some of the ceramic fuses you will find at parts stores are not made with copper, which is why I mention it. It's simple preventative maintenance to remove the fuses, clean all the contacts, and install new fuses with dielectric grease. It takes very little time or money and provides plenty of peace of mind. It's one of the first maintenance items I've done to every MB I've owned.

rdetoy,
Not all the original fuses installed in the MB factory are made out of copper. Most of them are made out of lead like other fuses. Some of the higher current fuses are made from copper, though. I can't understand why MB uses those old fashioned metal on ceramic fuses. Seems they would update them to the metal in glass type. P E H |
having the later style fuses would be nice, for sure

Joe,
To fix something that isn't broken you use the mainenance mechanic's addage, "If it ain't broken, you haven't fixed it enough". |
