Any opinions on this car, or on 115 body style 240d in general?

I have been reading all of your posts for 2 years and its both an education and a pleasure.

Thanks in advance.

IMHO, the 115 body is superior to the 123. More interior room, more trunk volume and fewer of the rust problems of the 123 chassis. This particular car's biggest drawback is that it's an automatic. Otherwise, 115s are the way to go.

except for that transmission and it fuel fill pipe, very superior
to a w123. handles better, easier to fix, perfect heater/ac
controls. better looking.

Wish my 240 looked that good, but it's fun to drive on the narrow Mt. roads where we live.sure would look for one with a manual tranny. The 115's are built like tanks......

Thanks for the replies.

Is there a problem with the mechanical performance of the automatic with this model i.e. break a lot or is it the vehicle performance is better with manuel transmission?

If it just slows the car down i think that i can live with that. i work in Tarrant County (Fort Worth, Texas metroplex). My mechanic, a MB specialist for 40 years, says he has never seen a 300 as slow as mine but can't find anything wrong with it. i have test driven multiple 240d and my 300DT performs similarly to 240d. I don't worry about car being slow because for the first 15,000 miles i didn't know it was slow! I have put 25,000 trouble free miles on. It gets 23 mpg in town and 30 mpg on the road and burns no oil.

An unexpected benefit of driving a slow car is that in the 18 months i have been driving the 300DT i have become a noticeably safer driver. Stopped all that lane changing, speeding up to get through yellow lights, exceeding the speed limit on freeways etc. All i have to do to return to my old ways is drive my wife's speedy gasser. So there it is, my confession. Driving a diesel has made me a better person.
