Stainless Steel Fender Trim

Hey guys,

My 300D has a small ding on the front fender lip that cannot be fixed properly without filler and paint.

I am not ready to do the work my self or pay $500 to have it fixed, so I am thinking about "covering it up" with stainless steel fender trim. I think they look pretty nice, offer some protection against parking lot dings, too.

My question is, all the kits I have seen on the net say they require drilling. Drilling of what? Once I do this ... I can't go back?

Any one installed these trim pieces? What did you think?

Trim:

Each piece of trim has 4 or 5 holes it them. You drill into the underside of the wheel well. So if in the future if you didn't want the trim you will have the holes on the inside of the flare. There is no tape that will hold them. How else would you secure them if not for screws?

Thank you

Okay, I get it.

I was worried I would be drilling into the exterior paneling of the car. Drilling into the underside of the fender does not bother me. I didn't realize they wrapped around.

I think I might just install these.

Do you guys like the look of the fender trim?

I had them on both my previous Diesels. a 1983 300SD and a 1984 300TD.

I had them put on to cover some rust and they looked great. They are especially nice on a black car as the chrome stands out.

3M makes a viciously aggressive double sided foam tape used to stick on body cladding, ground effects, etc. Ask a bodyshop about it. I wouldn't drill any extra holes in my car especially in a place like a wheelwell lip that is already prone to rust. That and I think the chrome looks too ghetto. But then again I also feel that way about clear lenses, 20" rims, etc. To each his own, RT
