Swapping upholstery (and seats)
I just got a '95 e300 diesel about a week ago. My previous car, which I still have, is an '87 300e gasser. They are both w124 chassis.
The MB-tex in the diesel is mostly in excellent condition, except that the back seat cushion is brittle and cracked/torn on one side. The gasser has leather (same color interior), which is in very good to excellent condition. I have also found that the driver's seat in the gasser is more comfortable, which is odd, since the seats look almost identical. However, the gasser's seat has better lower back support. I am contemplating swapping the seats between the vehicles. Is this easy to do? Also, the diesel has seat heaters, and the gasser does not. To keep the heaters, I assume that I will have to uncover the front seats, and move the heating elements to the leather seats. If anyone has tips, advice, or warnings, I will appreciate hearing them. |
Can you just swap the entire seat?

There were some trim/upholstery changes during that run, so I'd not try to just swap the covers unless the are identical. Padding might be different enough that neither set would fit right.
You can just swap the seats, though. You will have to install the wiring to get heated seats in the car without them. Peter |
