Heat Shield PN needed for OM617.952 engines
Can anyone provide me with the MBZ number for the correct injector heat shields for the OM617.952 engine?
Also, are these the 7.5mm or 10mm openings?

There was a post within the past few days where somebody said the 7.5 had been superceded by the 10.

A timely thread indeed.
I just came from the dealer after asking this exact question. The other day, I removed the injectors from my 1985 300D. As far as I know, it is the first time the injectors have been out of the car. The heat shields that were in my car have 10 mm openings. The dealer, on the other hand, only carries the 7.5 mm version. I plan to order the 10 mm version from Fastlane, but does anybody know why the dealer wouldn't list the 10 mm version? |

Look at Beagle's post here.
He says, among other things: "A new heat shield must be fitted every time an injector is removed and failure to do so will result in overheating of the nozzle. They collapse when fitted sealing simultaneously on the nozzle face and injector body. Before fitting check that there is a 0.5mm gap between the injector body and the shield with the inside rim of the shield sitting on the nozzle face. The shields prevent hot gasses from surrounding the nozzle and overheating it, causing carbon to form around the needle neck which in turn scores the needle seating. Any discoloration or carbon outside the area exposed to the PC indicates they are not sealed properly. Part No: D 6476 0331 (10mm Dia. hole) supersedes all earlier shields." |
