I want this...

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=2473876668&category=31854&sspagename=WDVW

This would be so much fun to fix up, but I'm only 19 and can't afford it at the moment. Did I spark anyone else's interest?

Yes would be very cool - and was watching to see where it ended.
It would have to stay about $500 for me to run a 1600 mile trip to fetch it. Interesting no title but then seller makes statement
"All sales is subject to Florida DMV laws" which is an interesting conflict. I think this would look better at rickg's place

I'm all the way on the west coast, I was thinking about a "SUV" because i carry more cargo than passengers, and i feel bad for my 300D (the plastic cover for the spare tire is sinking in). And even if I do buy it, I don't even know how to bring it back.

It actually looks like my 86 Isuzu T/D - Hmmm wonder if that grill could be modified to fit

is the tranny a good fit

i considerd this too but i figured it would take alot of money to get fixed right

and

i could never get used to driving on the wrong side of the car....its bad enough that usually i'm on the wrong side of the... (road, bed, law... you choose)

P. S. anyone know if the GL's 5 speed tranny would fit into a 300TD or 300SD??

That's the second time it's been on Ebay. I wonder what happened the first time.

If it were left hand drive I would buy it unless it were rusted.

Have a great day,

If it turns out right, my dad said go for it. I was thinking about adapting to right hand drive sooner or later, I did orginally plan to get a Nissan Skyline , not anytime soon however. Anyone know much about this G-wagen other than it probably shares the same engine as a W123?

Go over to the G-wagon forum and search thru the posts. There is a link to a great G-wagon site with a comprehensive history of the vehicle.
Europa in Santa Fe used to import them to the US before MB started doing it themselves.
The engine is similar to the 300d but there are some differences.

Kerry, I have heard of Europa. My friend in chicago got a 96 G320. The price was $110,000 I think? It was fairly steep. If i did purchase it, and find out the engine is very sick , can I take a 3.0 I-5 from a 300D/SD and use that? Or are the differences major?

TIA

Jason

I think the differences are minor enough that a 617 from a 300d should fit. Maybe some parts off the old engine will have to be used.
I don't think you will be able to use a turbo because it is right hand drive. The steering shaft runs in the vicinity of the turbo. I recall a question on the UK G-Wagon site about exactly that issue.

Europa is not a G-Wagon importer anymore. I think they are now a Saab dealership although they still have G's on their lot. I believe they still have access to the parts information however.

I'd make sure it has been legally admitted into the US. It still has the UK plate on it. The reason it may be a 'parts car' is because it cannot be registered for some reason.

I have had some experinece trying to title/register my Unimog.
and been a lurker to topics on non titled vehicles for a whil.e. I think that with all the work that thing would need you could register/title it as a "self assembled" vehicle. It wont be registerd/titled as a G-Wagen. This lowers its value as a restoration project IMHO

Also in it's condition you might be better off just having fun with it and put some Toyota or Jeep running gear (or combination of) underneath it. Use engine and tranny out of a 300D orrrr??? and add a divorced transfer case (Dana 20 or Atlas) and your set to go.

If I had the money I would do it my self in the drop of a hat.

Minimum bid was $0.99 and it got no bids. Want me to send you $1? Heck, throw caution to the wind and bid $2!

The seller removed the vehicle before the sale ended.
