Just say, the biggest black one.

The "Standard MB" battery for the diesels is only about $140-150 at the dealer...and its a nice white battery. "Made in Spain" I bet its a Bosch battery or something....Bosch has a lot of vehicle part production in Spain.

I doubt the E55 would have a bigger battery than our diesels....no glow plugs or enormous starter to run...although the V8 starter is probably fairly large. Unless its just to have a huge reserve for the bazillions of computers on board.

omegabenz,

Why would I want to spend $200 to $250 for a battery that isn't rated any better than a battery from AutoZone for about $80? Seems like the AZ battery and MB battery are made by the same manufacturer: Johnson Controls.

Also U didn't state what warranty the MB battery had?

find your local interstate battery distributor. They provide the batteries for Mercedes. I talked to them at the facility, and they showed me a file cabinet with all the logos they put on batteries, including Mercedes. I pick up MTB 93's that are 'blemished' for $36. I picked up one of the newest types--white casings for a mere $113.00. They are not allowed to sell a battery with logos on it: MB, Nissan, Lexus, etc. The warehouse tour was quite interesting. The new "MB" batteries come from Spain...good luck

The white battery is a standard lead acid battery. The Black battery, with part numbers I provided is for a sealed battery.

What does the white battery say for CCA?

When its cold outside the black battery is much better than the white battery. Just remember batteries loose efficiency rapidly under 50 degrees F.

I dont know the warrantee. Im not twisting your arm, do whatever you want. I just know what works well for me.

I prefer OE parts wherever I have the choice.

Its a battery. Not rocket science. No special connectors. Get the best battery for price/warranty. How long you keeping the car? Get a sealed battery. No Maintenance. AutoZone will test your system/Charging and Battery Free I believe, and install it Free. or is it advanced? I forget.

The correct battery for an MB diesel is a group 93 - there are lots of Group 49 batteries that will work, but most are 750 cranking amps. The best battery for an MB diesel is the Interstate Group 93 Mega-Tron Plus, 1000 cranking amps, 850 CCA and an 85 month warranty. Diehard used make a Group 93, but they don't anymore and they offer the Group 49 as a decent (not great) substitute.

FWIW. The Autozone Group 49 I installed three years ago works fine and starts the car easily down to 10 F. It sits for months at a time and still is able to start the car. It wasn't expensive and may have come w/LLT warranty, not positive about that.

rmmagow,

Comparing the 1958 220S to American cars of that time, the MB styling is light years behind. Lsst time American cars used a verticle grill was about 1938.

The MB white battery is 1100 CCA it cranks my car right up in the coldest of temps (4F last night) easily.

It has a 36 month full replacement warranty and like a 72 month pro-rated or something. I've had it almost exactly 1 year so far and its worked great. I can tell it has more "umph" than the die-hard international I used to have.

Also, I doubt the MB batteries are the same as ones from AZ etc...they are made in Spain, while the AZ batteries are from USA....different companies.
