Right you are. I checked the Rostra site to see that the magnet kit is extra

Reliable cruise with accurate speedo is moving toward the ideal. Now what about those cupholders...

Drill to mount the pick up nearby then thread the wire through an existing firewall hole.

That seems much simpler, and cheaper, than replacing a speedo cable. However, if your speedometer is a problem anyway, a repair there will probably be cheaper than a speeding ticket!
On a w123 you can put the pickup on the stud of the trans mount using a little creative bracket trimming, mounting the magnets just at the front of the center driveshaft. Is not too hard, but I'd use the stock pickup if it was an option.

I have a grand total of $20 in my aftermarket setup, and a spare control box and a spare servo. Perk of working at a savlage yard..

I'm drifting offtopic here, but I really like the cupholders from Griot's. Good quality, sturdy, fit all sorts of cups and best of all they're relatively cheap. I have 6 in my wagon (two for each row of seats). Mounted on the doors; not too bad except if someone leaves a drink in there and slams the door hard.

I like to live on the edge, what can I say..

Actually the wife is an Ex version, so all was well. She functioned as a pretty fair cup holder as well for a number of years.

What fun this was! I was looking at my collection of aftermarket cruise stuff for the W114(that has cruise not of any sort) and remembered this fondly.
Seems like just yesterday.
