Mobil 1 Oil at Walmart
I found Mobil 1 oil at a PA Walmart this week for $19.82 for a 5 quart jug. That's slightly less than $4 a quart.

They used to have it for $17.88 per 5 quart jug. Looks like there prices on it have gone up again.
|
They had it around $22 a few moths back...

Wow I must have missed it at $17, I bought a few jugs of it at $19 soon after it went upto $22.

Kragen had a coupon for $3.99 a quart a week ago. Got 6 for the shhhhh.............gasser............
|
My local Costco has sixpacks (6 quarts) for $23. Wish they had some Mobil Delvac 1 though...

Our local Wal Mart gets $17.88. The problem is that they get a truck load of it and two days later it's gone. You never know when you can find it there.
Have a great day, |
The Mobil 1 Truck & SUV 5w-40 oil ($4.77 qt in Wal Mart) is the same oil as Mobil Delvac 1 that's designed for diesels. The oil has the extra additive package to control soot in the oil. THe 15w-50 Mobil 1 does not have this additive package. That's not to say the 15w-50 Mobil 1 is not an excellent oil, it just that the Truck & SUV oil will handle the soot in the oil better.

Keep in mind that Wal-Marts in the same town often have different prices on the exact same items. From town to town it's a given...Wal-Mart is evil...

What is the advantage of running synthetics in our diesels? I've heard many times that the synths have a tendency to completely drain down to the pan overnight and leave nothing in the top end when you cold start. I remember years back when my uncle used it in his Honda Prelude he ended up with a lot of premature valvetrain wear.

If Costco ever starts selling THAT, then I'll be standing outside doors looking for someone to adopt me so I can buy all they hanE. |

One of the big deals that is never discussed by makers of synthetic oils is the big time increase in film strength over conventional oil's. That's really important in a diesel with the higher loading of the crank and rod bearing from the way a diesel ingnites fuel. |
I've never used synth oil mainly on the basis of higher cost. I guess the "bumb" info further turned me against it. I do remember reading that back in the '80's, Mazda's warranty on their rotary engines would be voided if you used synth oil in them.
Sorry to hijack the thread. I wonder what would 240Joe's take on synth oil would be?:D |
For what its worth, I am about 2000 miles into a switch to Delvac 1 from dino. I have a 84 300D I bought about 10,000 miles age (for $1700!) so far so good, no oil use and it may be my imagination but it seems quieter (?) Bought a 4 gallon case from the local distrutor for $98 after tax.
