I just keep a red 1.5 gallon vented gas tank full of diesel in the trunk. No worries

In a pinch, you could use a whole bunch of stuff. Didn't someone once say, "if it can pour through a pipe and light on fire....use it".

I have poured filtered motor oil in. I have poured in filtered WVO and straight VO. I can't imagine a problem if its a one time emergency situation.

The only difference I noticed was that it seemed quieter and shook a bit more due to the viscosity situation.

This is all fun stuff, but remember that the original question was for a 1999 E300, whose engine is about $12,000 to replace. So I would be a little more careful than just "if it flows through a pipe and you can light it on fire." But for an emergency situation, the least viscous oil you can find in the grocery store would be fine. I think R Leo said that was peanut oil. The E300 also does not have a hand pump, so you have to crank the heck out of the engine with the starter in order to reprime it. So the best thing is to not run out of fuel in the first place.

Hey Rick:

Good point about the engine and the year of the car. I was thinking of my 123's the last two of which costs me $500 for a complete, running car!

Not sure I'd dump the stuff in an expensive piece of work.

warden,
I don't know about 100% wvo, but I can do a 60% wvo mix in 60 degree temps with no modification

I guess peanut olil is the top choice...

however with almost 700 miles per tank full I guess I should be ashamed to run dry (G)
