ok, I misunderstood which one you were talking about. Yes, that one over the valve cover definitely works and keeps things clean in there. That's a big plus with the injectors sitting in a big hole due to the 4 valve design. I was thinking more about the big cover over the intake manifold on the CDI. That one doesn't look like it seals tight enough to keep anything out.

I think this car is going to be a hard one to get rid of in the future, meaning I dont think I will want to let go of it. Got 700 miles on it now and it is just awesome. My only problem with it is the fact that they used an unleaded fuel tank with the little flapper door in the filler spout and I am having a real hard time finding diesel pumps with small enough nozzels to fit. All the diesel nozzles I have found are either large or medium size and I have only found 1 that is small enough to fit into the filler neck. The other small nozzles are still just a tad too big to fit and you have to use a ball point pen to open the flapper in order to let it fill up and I dont want to drop the ink pen down the tank when filling. The dealer is looking into the problem and hopefully will try and fix it.

The problem can be solved with a brass drift and a small sledgehammer.

Beautiful CDI. Im looking into diesels now and instead of buying a used one, I will look in to the E class CDI. Id say you got a good buy and many years ahead. I think that you will die before the car dies first. (God forbid) LOL.

California? I will sell you mine when I get 7500 miles on it but it will be at a premium so I can go get another one just like it!!
Deal???

Its a wonderful car and I wish they could sell them to you in Ca. They are really clean burning. NO DIESEL SMELL at all, nor is there any smoke, just amaizing.
But I only have 750 miles now so I got a while to go before I reach 7500 miles, thats the rule I think to sell used with 7500 miles to get into Cal.

Is it true that the car has no glow plugs...so no more waiting at start-up ?
or excessive smoking when the weather is cold at start up?
I am going to drop my car off at the dealer today and I just might have to see if they have the one on the lot that I was told they were going to to the last time I was there.

I think the CDI is only legal for sale as a "new" vehicle in 45 states (not CA, NY, and a few others). CA will allow any new car to be imported as long as it has 7500 miles on the odometer though, then it's not considered "new" - go figure. So you can take delivery out of state, and then make a pleasant 10-day trip circling the USA to rack up the requisite 7500 miles, then cheerfully register it at CA DMV. Nice, huh?

But, with 7.5kmi+ on the clock, the engine will be properly broken in. Then you can slap a chip in it, and go spank some ricer behind at the local dragstrip... with your 4-door DIESEL!!!

Precisely. They don't want smelly, smoky, noisy diesels giving CA residents health problems. So they make it hard for you to buy them. The 7,500 mile law is pretty much only so people moving into CA can keep their exisiting diesel cars. If you try to register a vehicle with non-compliant emissions with less than 7,500 miles, they'll kindly give you a temporary one-way permit to get the car out of CA within 30 days. No joke... I sure don't miss living there, other than being near all the racetracks...
