Need vacuum help. PLEASE !!
I’m well past frustrated. I’ve got A/C system issues out the waazoo. And, I think it‘s all vacuum related. I replaced the engine shut-off valve due to it’s failure that left both the ignition switch as well as several vacuum lines flooded with oil. Mainly the green one that runs the A/C system, and the one to the ignition switch itself. I pulled, and blew them out. A few days later the A/C system started acting up as well as the power brakes intermittently wouldn’t be power at all.
Today, I pulled the center console out and the A/C system apart and made sure there was no oil in any of it. It seems to have stopped in the push button block. I blew it out with WD40 and then air. Still, the A/C system wouldn’t work right. I connected my Mity-Vac to the system and could get all the contacts to close as I’m figuring they should (pushing the buttons). That took lots of fast squeezing. With the Mity-Vac spliced into the main (green) vacuum line, It showed 5” at idle. Nothing more above that. In fact it came down jumping all over above idle. So I decided then that the vacuum pump is probably gone so I installed a rebuild kit after cleaning out quite a bit of oil. I’ve started it back up and it only makes 5”at idle. Nothing more as I increase the RPMs. But now it doesn’t come down until I hit the brakes. Three pumps and it’s no power again. I pulled and capped all the lines off the pump including the end at the master cylinder to see just what the pump will pull. 5”, that’s it. My book says it should increase with RPMs. Mine doesn’t. 5” and holding is it. Can someone please tell me what it should pull at idle. And what it should go up to as RPMs increase. I’d also love to hear that the pump is bad, and probably the cause of the A/C issues. Also I have the round dome type pump. I have engine 12-108335. Is that the right pump? I don’t recall ever changing it. Should the rebuild kit come with more than basically a new diaphragm and a few bolts? Like 2 new poppet valves? Mine didn’t. Thanks very much for your time. |
