That's really not very impressive IMHO. My street bike (considered grossly underpowerd compared to the latest machines) makes 2.17 HP per cubic inch. That motor has 13,000 miles on it with out as much as a single valve out of spec. Now if those roundy-round motors were not rebuilt after every weekend.. maybe that would mean something.

Whenever I hear the term NASCAR Technology I nearly pee myself laughing . Granted 'setup' is critical, but then it is in every motorsport, heck even in mountain bike racing!

Now the only sort of roundy-round racing I find exciting are the Air Races.. now *that* is an assult on all the sense of your body (not like Nitro funny-cars but awesome none the less).

Someone mentioned WRC. Wow! I love that stuff too. Now *thats* racing.. wrining a vehicle for everything it's worth... wish I had the guts to do that.. looks like fun!

Now.. that all said.. I'm just saying I don't undersand the draw.. (my sister in law just about went bankrupt so she sould go to the Daytona Beach race.. she's such a fan) but hey.. if everyone liked the same stuff it would be a pretty freaking boring place!!

My only big gripe about 'The Cup' is that it's crowding everyting else out of the media...

Simple supply and demand.

BTW, they don't rebuild those engines after every race. As I said, they scrap everything, even the blocks. They are terribly over stressed and the cost of losing an engine in a race is to great to gamble. All but the poorest of teams have a brand new engine EVERY race.

You totally missed my point. Yes your motorcycle makes the same HP/CI. You didn't say what it is, but lots of four stroke motorcycles have been using four valves per cylinder since the Honda 750. Odds are that your motorcycle was designed from the get go for that kind of power.

These guys are taking engines with a basic design for a few hundred horsepower and TRIPLING it.

Don't think that because it is on oval that chassis setup is any less complex.

Have a great day,

I loved the sport of baseball and I played it growing up and into High school. I can't stand it now. I think it is boring and the players are WAAYYY overpaid.
As far as the southern accent goes.....I am not saying anyone with an accent is inferior.

I used to watch the NASCAR racing on weekends and have been to a few of the races in person. Nowadays, I flat don't have the time to sit there and watch all of the races but I do try to watch the last 25 laps or so. I enjoy top fuel drag racing better nowadays and try to attend the Southern Nationals in Commerce (will be there the weekend of May 15th) every year and usually make a Thursday - Sunday weekend of it. I have some friends that drag race and we have a pretty good time of it.

vw - you should try taking one of those Cup cars around the track a few laps with the Be Petty program. It will give you a lot more respect for those guys that are out there racing those 500 miles every Sunday afternoon.

Yeah, seatbelts. I'm wondering when the NTSA nitwits will make us all wear helmets and nomex suits while driving.

I like to watch wreck clips from the NASCAR races on Max X.

Ding ding, we have a winner. Although I don't watch NASCAR I do know it has had a profound affect on the US auto industry. Major advancements were really felt from the late 50s into the early 70s. Even today, advancements they make in safety transfer into our cars.

As for the "bunch of grown men who can't speak proper English", you obviously are completely ignorant of the sport.

Did you ever think that NASCAR is everywhere because so many people enjoy it? I think most of it is over the top but I am all for it if it makes them happy. I certainly won't question their intelligence just because I don't watch it.

Just my $02.

NASCAR is not everywhere. How many races are there North of the Mason-Dixon?
I don't think I questioned the intelligence of anyone in this thread.

Pocono, Michigan, Lowden, Watkins Glen and Dover come to mind. Then you have the West, California, Sonoma, Vegas and Phoenix. Then the center, Texas. I dont feel Virginia is really the south, more a border territory. However, Richmond and Martinsville. Then on to the south, Talladega, Darlington, Charlotte, Bristol, Atlanta, Rockingham (odds are moved to Texas next year) Homestead and Daytona. Its Ironic that if Rockinghams spring date goes to Texas there will be 1/2 the races in NC (where Nascar was born and is based) than there are in Florida?

We are not all mush mouthed, inbred, liquor running rednecks down here. Also look to the field, most of the new young blood of note is from the upper mid west or California as of late.

Actually, the Mason-Dixon line runs north of MD along the PA border. VA is not a border state then. Although, I'm sure if you had a pole with everyone from VA and MD 80% would say MD is above the line.

All I can say is: to each it's own.

I,personally like the european semi-truck
races(now that is a sight,seeing a semi
go around a race track at 80-90 mls/hr)
,unfortunately I don't get to see it
that much here.

I lived in Europe since I was 3 and I returned
here when I was 26.
So I like the European type of races.
WRC,
F1,
Semi-truck racing,
Ice races and more.

Same goes for sports although I do
like baseball and icehockey.
Cycling,
Cyclo-cross(same bike as cycling but used off-road),
Soccer and more.

My opinion.

Louis.
