w210 diesel oil change poll

In order to change the oil in your e-class w210 diesel, do you???

Please also let me know how you change your oil, as well as the brand of oil, viscosity, and change interval.

1998 with 117k road miles.

Delvac I, 5000 mile intervals (I know some of you think I'm wasting money, it's my money),do it myself, that way I know its done properly and I save time.

Will be for sale in a couple weeks.

since the majority currently drop the underbody pans and drain it through a plug, I must ask: how do you get the body pans off and get to the drain plug.

Sorry if this seems like a dumb question, I havent been able to get under the car, nor can I find a good manual for these cars.

my under body pan is missing so no problem. i also have a 12 ton
4 post ramp so makes life very easy. i use a local brand (morris) full synthetic 10w40. change at around 8k

The Topsider method works just fine. I'm using Amsoil full synthetic heavy duty marine and diesel oil in 15W40. I change it when the FSS reads 5000 and 0, which turns out to be about 6000 actual miles each time.

JHZR2,

You only need to remove the front one. It takes an 8MM socket or nut driver. There are six or eight of them. If you can't get it up in the air, you will need to just put on your old clothes and lay on your back and slide a drain pan underneath.

It's really not a bad job and it gives you a chance to see if there are any leaks or anything while you're under there.

Hmmm.....mine is new to me 3k ago. I've changed the oil using Mobil 1 0W-40.

My oil pan is exposed, I didn't realize I was missing one a cover! Have one in front of the pan and one to the rear.

Anyone know a part number of the missing one?

I have the belly pan that goes under the oil pan from my '96 E300D. By coincidence I had left it off after showing the underside to the potential buyer when he inspected it. I called him later and told him that I had it but he never asked for it. That was about six years ago.

I would sell it for about $20 plus shipping. Private mail me if you like.

I use Delvac 1 and change it between 6,000 and 8,000 (longest interval yet) miles. When I first switched to Delvac 1 I changed it every 3,000 miles for a couple of cycles. I use the dipstick sucking tool. After a change to Delvac 1 I actually run for about a hundred miles and the oil is still clean! Changing it hot helps with this, but I also think the Delvac 1 really keeps the soot in suspension, so it drains out with the oil. Jim

Question Oil Change?

What is the proposed benefit of the front pan?

I have had my 97 300D for six weeks and will do the next oil change myself.

I would probably choose to leave the pan off for better cooling with the summer months arriving?

I did this with my Porsche 911 with no problem.

Comments?

Larry, I see you left yours off and it really is a no brainer. And easier for those oil changes.

The benefits I see to the undeside pans are protection from road debis, aerodynamics, and noise reduction. None are really substantial. I am just in the habit of always keeping mine on.
