Orange Diesel

Picked this one up from a family member.

The car was purchased new by my grandfather in 1980. It lived with my aunt in Washington state and Alaska for 100k or so before returning to the bay area for a few years.

I have all the records from new and it is in excellent condition. All new climate control last year, rebuilt suspension, and tons of small parts. Paint is original and shines well.

The motor was rebuilt at 150k because it was driven without oil (or something to that effect- never got the whole story there...

Interior is tex and is near mint save for a driver's seat with an ever so slight list to port.

Notice the raised white lettering on the tires which lends the car a quasi-sporty look.

For ~80hp, it steps off the line faster than my 80SD did. Put it this way- pedal only needs to travel halfway to the floor for an acceptable start.

There are some things to fix (antenna, interior door release, and power locks) but other than that I plan to drive it everywhere.

Can't wait to finally join in on some diesel discussion. I wish this forum has existed when I owned my first diesel.

Mike

...the first picture makes the car look red- the color is actually represented in the second picture by the door sill.

There my 300SE is in front. I might take it off the road to fix some problems.

I love the tires! A subtle hint of sportiness. What brand are they??

Thanks guys.

Tires are BFGoodrich. They are just OK as far as performance, but I do like the look.

How would that thing beat a 116 off the line? There must have been something wrong with your because it would surprise you how fast mine gets up there. That is a neat car. Orange is..........a bit TOO 70's ish. I've never driven a 123, I want to. That would be neat to have the same kind of records you have and to know that it was always taken care of right (minus the oil incident, we all make mistakes, some more costly than others though). Look forward to seeing you more here, hopefully with more good than bad. Is it just me, or does the wood look that good up close? It doesn't seem to have the usual cracks and blemishes that most of here suffer from.
Nice Car
David

David,

The rear end is in this thing is something ridiculous- over 3.46, I am thinking. I will have to look it up.

I must confess that my 116 car started in second gear because of some problem and I never fixed it because I never knew there was a problem! But, I drive my mechanic's 123 turbo diesel and this thing will take it off the line. After that a turbo is all over it, and the NA diesel ain't gonna go much over 75 comfortably

Yes the wood is very nice. Maybe because it was in Alaska and Washington state where there is no sun?

Do you have a picture of your SD?

Mike
