I like to convert my old style glow-plugs to the later ones. I saw a conversion kit at "**************" for $112; is it worth the price or is this something I can make my self? It says that the wiring is special....?

Your link directs me to the wrong page, I did a search yesterday night, read them all, was just wandering if it's worth the money for this kit or that there are cheaper solutions. $112 is a little steep for 5 glow-plugs and some wires....

I converted a 77 240d by just changing the plugs and pulled a wire harness from a bone yard 300d and made some modifications for the four plugs. The old style relay box will want to charge the plugs for to long but all you need to do is fire them for a 10-15 count and start the car. Worked fine.

No need for the kit. Just buy the fast glow plug with the fatter threads (on Fastlane--part number somewhere on a thread on this topic I posted to a few months ago).
Disconnect the final ground wire at the front of the block from the front plug and then connect the hot wire to the first plug near the firewall. Make a set of heavy jumper wires to go from first plug to second and on down the line.
Presto, job complete. Car will start much better.

Problem is, I think, those 18mm GPs are about $20.00 ea, so thats a prety cheap relay. I didnt use it eather. I made the jumper wires between the plugs with #10 multy stranded wire and they work great, WELL Worth the $
