Propane, that's one clean burnin' efficient fuel I'll tell ya what. The best part is that you can use it to barbeque at a MB diesel picnic so you can taste the meat, not the heat, and then let it make your 240D go faster. (Something Hank Hill would say.):p

The A/C compressor control is in a really handy location. So get in the habit of turning it off when you take off from a light and then turn it back on once you get to speed.

not just 240's

I had a friend with a 4 cyl early 80's Mustang and AC. She would turn off the AC when making left turns in traffic.

I had a reman engine installed last year from MB on my '82 240D. I told the shop mechanic to leave the AC off after learning there was a leak in the compressor. Acceleration was always lousy anyway when the the AC was running. I find the acceleration perfectly adequate, and freeway ramp speed adequate also. As a matter of fact, I think the acceleration is more than adequate...

just got a 240d to augment the 350sdl and 300d and I like to drive the 240, as it is faster than the 300d if you hit the shift
points right!!

240MB man,
I also have a non-turbo vehicle (3 in fact)
I am trialling a water injection system which injects a mist of water at maximum throttle setting.
I add some denatured alcohol to the water and increase the percentage to increase the power increase.
A microswitch on the accelerator linkages on the rocker cover closes it's contacts at full throttle and powers a 12v water pump. The water:alcohol blend is pumped to a misting nozzle in the air cleaner housing, just above the inlet manifold entry.

I have found that with a 50% water:alcohol blend, I am able to increase hill climbing speeds by 10-20%

I believe that this is a "low impact" conversion which can be easily reversed, without much use of tools.
I obtained Ignition 12V from a relay power feed, near the fuse box.
I am currently using a 1 litre bottle as my reservoir.

In the photo, you can see the pump and reservoir bottle to the left of the air cleaner air pipe and the microswitch (little thing with red connector) on the accelerator linkages on the rocker cover.

Ok, no AC is a good option in the frozen north, but try that down here in Dallas in Aug.

TonyFromWestOz,

What pump are you using? How is the water injected, what nozzle do you use?

Interesting setup, wonder if it would work as well if you turboed your 300d too

black280ce,
I used this Water pump and the nozzle was from an outdoor cooling system which I no longer use, it has a fine brass nozzle and screws into reticulation border spray rigid risers, and uses barbed fittings (elbows etc) to attach to some MB vacuum line I had laying around, which fitted the pump outlet.
I will see if I can post a pix of it later.
BTW, I would not recommend for a Turbo'd engine, as the turbo may be damaged by the droplets and if you have an intercooler they may become lodged there.

if i did turbo my w123 and installed water injection it would have to go on between the intercooler and the intake.
