I am trying to get all the lights working in my diesel.

Seems everything is fed light through the fiber optic system.

Questions:

1. Where is the central hub? Do I need to pull the ACC unit to access?

2. Does the light (circled) belong in hole "2"?

3. How do I get the temp wheel lit up. It did on my previous '80 car with type one ACC.

--The light for "3" is right behind the hole, just needs to be pushed foward (towards front). There is a light already in hole 1, so hole 3 is the only hole without a bulb present.

Any tips are greatly appreciated.

1.) I think you may need to pull it. I did my lights when I had the center console out for some ACC troubleshooting. If you get that black plastic "plate" in your picture out of the way, the central "octopus" hub should be inside on the passenger (right)side of it. Leading from it are the fiber optic lines that light your other things like switches.

2.) I'm not sure if that light belongs in the #2 hole, but what you can do, when you get the bulbs working is to put the ACC faceplate back on, and see if it's properly lit up in that portion of the display. If not, it probably goes there.

3.) There is another one of those bulbs that gets stuck into the driver's (left) side of the wheel, and that lights it up.


As a matter of fact, I think that you can only pull the ACC unit if the center console is out! It takes a some time to pull it out, but it might be the only way. Yes, just checked the manual and it says that you need to remove the center console. It isn't easy putting these lights back into their place when they're out, so I don't think you can just reach from underneath or something to try to do it. Plus it's really dense back there with lots of wire/cables/little space. Good luck with whatever you do.

Man, the type 2 ACC in my 126 car is much easier ti deal with/fix!

I dont have the FSM for this car, so no real instructions are available.

When I put the bulb in the #3 hole, the 2 outside upper lights (there are four total) light up.

I agree that the only way to get the acc unit out is to pull the console. Time to decide how much I really need these lights. Thing is, I have already come this far, so I want to do it right.

When you say 'black plastic plate,' are you referring to the secondary faceplate on the ACC unit?

I think you are correct in putting that bulb in the #3 hole, as that appears to be the source of light to those things you mentioned. Yes, by black plastic plate I mean that secondary one, that holds the temp. wheel and buttons. I'd also make sure the four switches above the ACC panel are also getting their light before putting everything back. Sometimes when you work with them their fiber optic lines pop out of place.

Ok, all the lights are up and running 'cept the temp wheel. Good enough for now- maybe I'll try for it when I put a new radio in.

I did it without removing the console, but it required some serious contortion, as well as tape and toothpick for tools.

I had forgotten how funky this type of ACC looks lit up at night...a bunch of bright writing! So funky, I love it.

Now for a sloppy rear window regulator...

Yeah, it does look funky doesn't it? All orangey and very much of the time they were built in. I was thinking about changing the backside of the faceplate or the lights themselves somehow in the future, to try and produce a different-colored display. I have a CD player right below it, with a modern blue display so it really clashes with the orange lights at night time. But I guess that can be expected, as it is an old car
