606 standard w/ block heater? Cord instalation time?
Hi,
from searches, it seems that MB has been importing their diesels in the past number of years with block heaters installed. Then, the dealer just takes the coupon in the owner's manual (my fathers 96 e300d has the coupon still in it), and puts the cord on. My question is, does anyone with a 606 engine NOT have a block heater pre-installed? My second question is, where would I find the block heater, and how hard would it be to install the cord? The dealer claimed 1 hour! Thanks, JMH |
I am not positive re: E300D. The earlier diesels use a heater a cord for which is available from Fastlane ($21 click button above, use online parts catalog search for block heater)
I searched under the '95 e300D but it doesn't list a block heater for some reason, so maybe MB is using a different style heater or something for that production or maybe the online catalog wasn't set up for that yet. Call Phil and speak with him about it, it is possible that Fastlane doesn't get the same style heaters as MB is putting on from the factory. Installing a cord in the W124 will be more difficult that the W123 cars by about an hour. That is due to the cover under the engine for one thing, it might need to come off I an not sure, but the top side of that engine has less elbow room and is layered like most new car designs, so you probably have to remove a lot of stuff before tou even get to the heater. I just looked at mine, it has a block heater cord but the heater isn't even visible! A block heater is nice in places when it gets really cold.... good luck! DDH |
You said you searched. Did you find my post about this, complete with pictures of the cord routing? I wouldn't be surprised to hear the dealership quote an hour, as that seems to be about their minimum these days.

I did a search on '606 block heater', and got limited results. Ill search for your username and find the info. Thanks,
