Got the new rear 420 springs installed - NICE
This is after the right rear shock mount finally rusted through the trailing arm. I had a new/used trailing arm waiting to install but didn't think I'd be installing it in an emergency case like this  After picking up the car, he told me that the spring itself was VERY close to *ALSO* punching through the trailing arm    THAT would have been a scary thing to happen on the road!
Anyway, while having it installed, I also took care of the saggy rear end. My indy installed some springs form a 420...and whoa! what a difference. The amount of body lean in corners is noticeably reduced. The wife even commented that the car feels stiffer (in a good sense - and she normally doesn't notice changes like this). And most importantly, the rear end sits exactly how I would expect it to sit. Couldn't be more pleased. Indy says that the 300SDs (W126) came with too-soft reear springs from the factory and installing new 300SD springs wouldn't have done much good to correct the problem....hence the 420 springs and new pads. |
