87 300D for $8995???
A friend needs some advice. He's been looking for a good diesel and came across this 87300D in Austin.
It's got all the records and only 59,000 miles. We both think the price is a little high. What do ya'll think would be resonable. VIN: WDBEB33D2HA470194 |
I personally saw an 87 sedan and 87 wagon in January that were priced at $12,000 and $14,000. Each of them had more than 150,000 miles as well. So if the car passes a prepurchase inspection, then the price is not out of line.

I think the seller will have no trouble at all selling it at the listed price; in fact I think it's priced well below market. Check out this Ebay auction: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&category=6330&item=2472969276&sspagename=STRK%3AMEBWA%3AIT This higher milage '87 300D from the rust belt netted $13.3K on Ebay.

Sounds like a steal with that low mileage.

If the mileage is legit and the car in nice shape it's cheap. Your friend should buy it.
|
Sounds like a good deal if it is for real. Even though the maintenance record should be enough, running a carfax on it may not hurt.

We looked at it today. Suprise, no records. It drove well and did'nt have any obvious mechanical problems.
Did notice the rear head rests would'nt go up, the AC controls looked worn, left front tire was worn on the outside. From the fading in the interior it did'nt live in a garage. Spare was flat, and the drivers seat would'nt adjust with the door closed (is this normal?) My friend is sending it for a prepurchase inspection tomorrow, but he wasn't impressed enough to pay $8995. |
not trying to be crass but I am in the Austin area, and I am getting a new E300. I am getting ready to sell my 82 300cd with records and only 128k mi. I am going to ask $4500.

Hello everyone,
Now I have my 87 300d for sale, just put it in the paper, at 5000 asking price. Is that price too low. I dont expect to sell it from a forum person and if someone from the forum would want it I would sell it for 5000. Do you think that I should put it up on ebay. that seems like a bit of a cop out. Any way, she is a great car with a real good history (i just repaired everything) with only 108k There is 5 grand worth of new parts in this car. Do you guys think I can get more for it than that on ebay. good luck with the car if you buy it. I dont think that the low miles is such a great selling piece as these cars go forever anyway. Why pay for the mystic of low miles on a car that is expected to go 300K Just my opinion. The most important aspect of these old cars is HISTORY good luck bob |
Drivers seat doesn't adjust with the door closed and ignition off. You need to either have the door open or the ignition on. Don't ask me why, must be one of those German things...
Without records I'm not sure what it's worth. Who knows if the milage is correct? You can be reasonably certain the maintenance is not up to date. - JimY |
Sounds like The Bob's car should be $8995 and the one rderton is looking at should be $5000.
|
My friend decided there were too many questions. He's leaving it for someone else to pick up.
|
I wish I hadn't put so much money into my car, or I wouold be buying you're '87 TheBob. I thoink you should put it on E-bay and see what you can get for it. Nice of you to offer it to the Forum first...I really wish I could pounce on it. Good luck.

Thanks guys,
I had it up for about 2 weeks now or so and since then I fixed all the remaining issues. It is hard to buy a used car because of the trust issues. I dont want to sound foolish but I can be trusted. The car is solid and I would like for someone on the forum to get it. If I dont get it sold soon I might put it up on ebay and take my chances. Thanks bob |
