A solution for those who don't like the 123 seats
 

So you don't like the comfort of the 123 sears---here is an option;)

I've looked into it. There are tons and tons of perfectly comfortable cheap late model car seats like that in salvage yards, but MAN do they look out of place. The only thing I've seen that *might* not look so bad are OEM leather full power jobs out of a lateish model Ford Tarus. They just kinda looked like they might not be so out of place looking. My other wonder is swaping in SD seats with the power lumbar and such.

I love the headrests, but especialy after bending over the finder adjusting valves this afternoon, the 123 seats are murder no matter what I do it seems. :(

Does anyone know if there are any seats that would bolt in place on a 123 without too much modification?

Those Dakota seats look comfortable (if not "nice"), but I'm guessing that he did quite a bit to make them fit...

I love my car, but the front seats leave a lot to be desired... :(

bmw series 5 seats from the 1980's look real close in size
and structure to w123s. most came in leather. pick-in-pull
has lots, 5-10 bmw's for every mb. i wonder why?

I replaced the faded, worn, coming apart, uncomfortable original seats (front and rear) in my Fairlane with a set out of a late model T-bird. After some cleaning they look great, match the new carpet I put in, the driver's is power, and they beat the old ones by miles and miles in terms of comfort (mostly because the foam on the old ones was half gone in spots). The seats in the picture look terrible in that car, but they would be passable if the color matched. It's not the easiest job, but if you're feeling adventurous it's worth taking some measurements and checking out what's available. It just might be the difference between being able to do a 1000 mile stint and suffering after only 200.

I was after a set of Bostrom air rides or a set of late model Japanese seats. What I found on Ebay was a set of 1995 Buick Riveria black leather 8 way adjustable heated seats for $100. :D
I do miss the MBZ arm rest.

I used the pool noodle trick with my 300 d seats, and MAN did it work great.

I'd like to see the Buick seats too. I thought the seats from the original post looked horrible, but I'd probably put sheepskins on like I have now anyway. I actually like the feel of my seats on my 300D. I have to recline the seatback quite a ways for it to be comfortable. I haven't gone on any trips longer than a couple of hours either. I gotta have the armrest too. Anyone else tried other seats in a 123?

i have an 82 300 TD and the seats are brutal - what is the "pool noodle trick" JCD refers to?

Do a search "pool noodle seat" and you 'll get a variety of approaches.

Basically i took one of those pool noodles, The long floating noodle things, cut off about a 1 foot section lengthwise and cut about 1/3 off one side horizontally and stuffed it between the top and bottom of the spring, such that it is horizontal, i.e. parallel to the ground.

It was just enough to firm up the seat, on both sides, while still retaining the feel of a W123 seat.
