Has anyone ever heard of a 240D wagon?
I saw an ad in the local paper today for an '82 240D wagon with a 4-speed trans. They're asking $3500 for it. Its supposedly in excellent condition.
I've never heard of something like this. Is there really such a thing? I would think something like this would be terribly underpowered. What do you all think? |
It's from Europe.

It's a gray market W123 240TD -- I've seen a few of them.

Would it be worth looking into?

Maybe if you dont mind it being slower than you are used to.

With the price of fuel these days I don't think I'd mind the trade off of performance to MPG's. Something like this would really be practical and I think I could possibly talk my wife into getting it as long as the price is not too much for something in pretty good shape. Heck it could replace the Tahoe.
What should I be aware of in such a euro model? |

A friend of mine used to have one -- he loved it and held onto it for years.

And it probably has the four speed... which really mitigates the ' getting up to speed' situation....
And might have different ratios in the third member.... Gearing can make a lot of difference.... |

I saw the same ad... seller claims 45mpg! I was thinking a more realistic number would be ~32mpg for a 240TD manual.
