$1.49 in middle GA for today's 19 gallons; 530 miles on a tank and the reserve light was not staying on!

GA politicians get their taxes in other places.

Fuel is $1.59 in Charlotte NC that is the best price I have found but just across the state line in SC it is always cheaper.

I`m afraid this Enron thing is actually a direct consequence of the ENERGY INDUSTRY having excessive influence over our political process.

Get used to high prices fellas, it`s here to stay. This is what happens when the brain dead Amerikan public thinks some hokus pokus is gonna make more of something there is fastly becoming less of and continues it`s SUV love affair with drive thru sloburban utopia. And when Chinamen get the same hallucination there won`t be much left of anything.

Personally I`m looking forward to $3.00 or more a gallon, we`ve been paying that for a few years now. The 45 MPG TDIs sure get alot more use than the 300TD around here. Time for this nation to get real and begin to pay the full and true cost of our addiction to someone elses Devil`s Tea.

Gonna be an interesting next couple of decades. Better buckle up boys, it`s gonna be a rough ride.

Lowest priced i saw today was $2.35 in alhambra by a mom n pop station (corner of valley blvd and del mar ave.). Most expensive, dad said it was $2.50 at the station that we've been going to lately. Maybe we should start a sticky and just post fuel prices?

Hey, TheVirginiaDude -

Are you sure that it takes more crude to make a gallon of gas than it does diesel?

I was always under the impression (possibly mistaken) that, because you get more energy (btus) out of a gallon of diesel, it took more crude to get a gallon of diesel............

Prices in AZ vary depending on whether the stuff comes from Texas or Kalifornia. I've seen from $2.29 to $2.09 in the past two days.

Cheers,
Wes

Jason, There's actually a website that has postings of fuel prices.
It's at: http://www.gaspricewatch.com

Don’t hold me to the exact numbers, but they can crack a barrel of crude in different ways in order to get different ratios of product. In late winter they start cracking for gas and wind up with approximately 2/3 gasoline – 1/3 heat/diesel in order to build stocks for the summer driving season. In mid to late summer they switch and begin to crack for #2heat/diesel for winter heating and wind up with about 2/3 heat – 1/3 gas. Not exact as I said, but pretty close.

Was just listening to a piece on NPR about the refinery that Shell is shutting down in Bakersfield, CA because it's not economicaly viable, except whistleblowers inside the Shell organization released documents showing that it is one of the most profitable refineries in the U.S. There's more going on than the simple mantra of "it's just supply and demand" When corporations are creating supply shortages to maximize profits they are acting in their own interest as our market system is meant to, and they are laughing every time somebody blames it on enviromentalist conspiricies, diverting attention from their enormous profiteering

Yeah, I'm sure those guys at Shell are so stupid that they would shut down a profit making refinery. It could very well be that due to the poor crude they have, they can make more money in that geographical area by simply buying from another supplier to keep their stations supplied. So, another conspiracy theory?

The reason they are shutting it down is that the quality of the crude they have is so low that it's getting more difficult to meet environmental limits. I would expect that those who say it is profitable are doing some projected bottom up accounting. It would be too much trouble to find out the real facts.

Wagger,

I'm sure that you folks on the other side of the Atlantic are getting quite a chuckle listening to the Yanks belly ache about $2 a gallon.

Have a great day,
