A bit OT as well...nice low mile BMW TD on eBay

I found this while browsing eBay for diesels. I wish it was local as I would have bought it.

I didn't know that BMW sold diesel cars in the USA once upon a time. I'd be very skeptical of buying any BMW products that old. I've heard a lot of bad rap about their powertrains not being very durable. This one has low miles though, so it could be an exception.

I've heard quite the contrary on their diesel engines. They're quite popular in RV's. BTW I heard BMW still makes diesels but we never see them here.

If I remember correctly wasn't there some goof ball federal tax credit for buying diesel cars then. I think it lasted from 82-85 and many were making diesel passenger cars....

The BMW diesels were very short lived in the US and only sold for about 2 years here...

bmw still makes diesel in europe. they are quite amazing cars! fast, quiet, fuel efficent. just image a new 5 series with a 6 speed manual tranny and the power of a new E320cdi.

the 524TDs have been discussed here quite a few times. there is lots of info if you do a search.

I'm not big on BMWs but I'm tempted by any Diesel car in the US with fabric upholstery and manual AC. Too bad for me that this example has leather. The driving style that gets 38mpg out of that car will get 25mpg out of an XJ-S.

I'd really love to find a Lincoln Mark VI with that motor. I see one occasionally on the Parkway. At least I wouldn't worry about bad valve guide seals on the 5.0HO.
