603 clear IP fuel lines

Do the clear fuel lines between the IP and filter have to be replaced for any reason other than appearance? Is it possible to replacing the hoses or do they only come with fittings as the EPC lists?

Seems like the ones in the SDL were more flexible in their youth but they're far from brittle at this time.

Why are they clear at all?

Thanks,

They come only complete with ends, it's very difficult to get them onto the fittings (I think they are heated and machine installed on the barbs).

I think the are clear to permit you to see the fuel (or lack of it as bubbles) moving in the line.

I'd not replace them unless the leak.

You can cut them off and use standard diesel fuel line with hose clamps instead.

This works with gasoline lines on K-Jet fuel systems as well -- some lines aren't readily available. I did this on the TE, gets better milage now without the drip, to say nothing of the fire hazard....

I replaced mine because they looked dark and were getting stiff. For $45 from the dealer, I replaced all three and all the crush washers. I don't know if I wasted my money but they look better!:D I don't think you can just get the hose.

If you want to have clear fuel lines or one is leaking... not a common failure I've ever read about.

Maybe the 603 ends are different, but the ones on the 606 are plastic and get very brittle. Most of the ends on mine broke apart when I replace the lines - because they were leaking.
