In just 12 hours I broke my new 300td
I should have known...when the top radiator hose was leaking a little I should have paused to think about how much to tighten the clamp. But I didn't, and now I have to fix her.
Has anybody besides Dakotawind been able to order just the top piece of the radiator? How has the repair held up? Thanks!

Replace the whole radiator and your hoses.

I found this thread through the search cheap radiator fix and was wondering if anyone else done this replacement?
William, unfortunately mine has broken so short that none of the epoxy/pipe reinforcement repairs would work. I either replace the top or the whole thing. whunter, are these radiators prone to failing in places other than the top radiator hose and overflow tank hose locations? Thanks!

I'm with whunter, just replace the radiator and hoses and fill with MB coolant. Look at it this way: The raditaor was getting ready to fail. You got lucky. it failed where and when you could manage the situation. Could have been in middle of interstate highway with whole family in car and all dressed up going to a wedding or something. Check around for a new radiator. Won't be cheap, but it will last a lng time. Check with Fastlane and maybe even the dealer. You might be surprised.

I'll put my vote in for a new radiator. I've tried cheap fixes on this type of thing before and they have almost without fail bitten me each time. Pay your dollar and fix it once.

I put my vote for a new, all metal radiator I.E. copper and brass. I saw here someplace where all metal radiators could purchased. That's what I'd do if I needed a new one. Things like these flimsy radiators are one of the reasons that Consumer Reports can't recommend purchasing any of the new MB because of their low quality. Wake up German engineers: the Japs are building much better quality cars. Stupid things like putting in radiators with a plastic tank and aluminum core is ridiculous in an MB. Then add an aluminum head that cracks when overheated. What are the engineers thinking? Have the cost cutters taken over completely? P E H |

Temporary Fix instead of paying tow truck
I drilled out the little nub, and inserted another pipe, and clamped the hose to the inserted pipe.
But its not a fix that you would trust. I works enough so that you don't have to pay a tow truck, or could move the car to avoid parking tickets until you fix it right. |

Go to Fast Lane and get a new radiator. They are roughly 1/3 the price of the stealership. I put one in my dearly missed Euro 240D 5 speed. Very easy swap - so easy that even I can do it.
