Been using Mobil 1 since my Turbo Sirocco days. I've seen what regular oil can turn into inside of the center bearing housing.

The SDs got Delo 400. The SDL gets Mobil 1 to quiet the lifters.

Shell Rotella 15/40 in my Benz and the Rotella 30W in my F-250 6.9. Does anyone else use Rotella?

If money was to be no object, I would defintely prefer Mobil-I Delvac but at over US$12 a liter I cant even contemplate using it for my diesels.
The best compromise is Caltex Delo 400 Isosynth, performs better than my previous choice of regular Delvac Super as it is prone to lesser breakdown. I can do six months or 6000 miles change and the oil analysis results are superb. The best part is the price, it is only slightly higher than Mobil-Delvac Super. |

It has Mobil 1 synthetic in it now, but after I rid of the stuff I have in stock (enough for one more change) I think I'll switch it over to Amsoil 15w40 HDD synthetic oil.

Hi Tangent,
Why not consider Delo-400 which is rated at 15W-40 and is virtualy identical to the Delvac, except being ISOSYNTH, it remains stable for longer drains and resists high temperature breakdown quite well. It is also rated at CI-4 so will keep the internals of your engine quite clean. Being a previous die hard Delvac user, I am quite pleased with the change. In fact Delo-400 meets the million mile warranty from manufacturers like Cummins etc. |

For those who don't know, Mobil Truck & SUV synthetic oil is the same oil as Mobil's Delvac 1 and can be found in most Wal-Mart's now for $4.77 qt. It is mostly sold in the 6 pack at present. Check the TDI Forum for the info Mobil 1 Truck & SUV Oil .

Not only in my diesels, but Delo 400 Multigrade goes in everything from lawn mowers to pick up to 300E et al, with the exception of the C240. Since it came with Synthetic from the factory, it sees frequent changes of Mobil One Red Top.
Have a great day, |

Chevron Delo 400 @ 15w-40.
same oil we use for our inboard diesels in the charter boats. I get a decent price on cases of gallon jugs and it seems to hold up well under the demanding conditions of the marine diesels.

I plan on using Rotilla in our 300 once I get it going. I don't think I'll bother with synthetic year-round, but I am thinking about switching to it from Nov-Feb for better old weather performance. I was talking with a guy who had done some automotive engineering work that included a lot of oil analysis, and as a result of what he said I'm tempted to try Mobil 1 synthetic in some of our gassers that get a lot of miles put on them.
I still haven't quite decided whether the price-performance ratio really works out on synthetic though.
