300 td tachometer/unimog??

Hi, just a little question.
I am finishing the install of an om 617a in my unimog. I'd like to ad an aftermarket tach. I have the pick up and amplifier, is it possible to wire a standard tach in(4-6-8 cyl, no 5)? If so any wiring diagrams? My Chiltons 123 diesel manual leaves alot of wiring detail out (not great for swappers)
TIA PJL

one more?

I've had my newly dieselized mog out for a little burn up the road to promote some inspiration, anyways, my cheap boost gauge pegged at 12 psi. What kind of numbers should I expect, when I get a gauge that reads high enough?
Thnx again PJL

It really depends on the type of tach you got. Most after market diesel tachs work off the stator lead from the alternator. astandard gasoline engine tach would be much harder to make work.

You want to keep your boost under 15 PSI you may want to use the extra protection of the switch over valve installed in the ALDA line found in 300D or SD models just incase your waste gate sticks

what bell housing set up are you using?

WELCOME to the 617 Unimog world. We will have to compare performance notes over time.

Mine is with a Radio box/Camper. Yours? Did you use Gerald's Kit? PO did my conversion but engine was basically brand spankin new.

Thanks, I do have the switchover valve with the diesel. I don't really need a tach, I just wanted one to help break down the power curve a little. With my stock 10.5 by 20's I think it will rev in the mid to high 4's at 55 mph. When these tires wear out I'd like to upsize moderately to bring down the revs, if the torque is in the right spot. George, 12.5 by 20's hmmmn?
Geo, I fabricated the bellhousing and modified a 240d flywheel to accept the unimog pressure plate. I got a little carried away, shortened the bed to eight feet and moved it back. I extended the cab by thirty inches to make it four door. I was going to wait until it was done to post a pick on the unimog forum, but the damn details keep eating up the time. I'll attach a couple pics, just have to reduce them first. By the way a clutch shaft has been installed in the housing since.

One more, Geo I'll post a pic on the unimog forum when it's complete. Many nice rigs there.

NICE job. Wish I had the time to really work on my planned upgrades.

The MB truck forum here is great but they choose not to support Unimogs as much as they do M's so might I suggest you stop in here at: BW- UNIMOG FORUM Would GREATLY love your input, sharing of knowledge there etc..

PS. Nice craftmanship on the bellhousing. Did you clock the engine at 13 degrees or?
