There is a shortage of soy this year. Soy meal prices went up $100 a ton a little over a month ago. Other crop prices are going to go up because of that too, animal feeds still need to be produced. (cotton seed meal is really high now too)
A lot can be done with alternative fuels but it's not going to be possible to fuel all the cars, trucks, busses, tractors, etc. that there are out there.

TheVirginiaDude,
Yes, but only the French water that is shipped to the US contains the toxic waste. They keep the clean stuff for themselves. Have a great day, |

SEVERAL POINTS
When the fuel was changed several years ago, it had nothing to do with sulpher, but rather with the removal of aeromatic hydrocarbons. Seals and o rings swell up in the presense of these hydrocarbons and don't leak. When these hydrocarbons were removed the seals shrank and hardened and leaked. These seals were worn out and should have been replaced anyway. If you wanted to keep your seals swollen, all you had to do was go to your local chemical supplier, sign some forms saying you weren't making bombs or drugs, and buy a gallon of technical grade zylene. Interestingly these hydrocarbons increase octane ratings and decrease cetane ratings. The government may want to get rid of diesels ror whatever political reason, but diesels may actually be the wave of the future for private vehicle transportation. Manufacturers in Europe are developing diesel engines that provide more power, less emisions, and better fuel mileage that will replace gasoline driven engines. The europians have always been ahead of the U.S. in safety and environmental concerns. R134 is a good example. It is no safer than R12, but Dupont's patent expired so the Duponts with all their money pressured congress to make R12 dangerous to the environment. You have to be proud of our congress, because it is made up of the finest money can buy. To give you an example: the country of Singapore has a ban on chewing gum, because people were abusing the disposal of it. Singapore would like to join the WTO, but in order to do so must allow the import of chewing gum, because Wrigley says so. On another note Bush senior came to the Bay Area where I live for a fund raiser when he was running for reelection. Did he go to San Francisco to get donations from the general Republican populace? No. He went to the home of an oil baron in the town of Moraga to collect checks from a small elite group. If you think the government is interested in alternative energy sources, think again. Peter
