New 300SDL

Well, I'm flying out to OKC Thursday to pick up my new '86 300SDL. Gonna drive for awhile thursday night and do the big leg back to northern KY Friday. Taking the southern route: I-44 to I64 to Louisville then I-71 to home. Hopefully this will be an uneventfull trip. Cars looks and sounds good. But, have not seen it in person yet. I have high hopes. If you are anywhere along the route, wave when you see an Anthracite Gray SDL heading east with a gray bearded guy driving. If you see the poor slob broke down on the highway, be gentle. For pictures of what I bought, go to http://www.okc-autos.com/mercedes.html . I'm not addicted to diesel, no, I'm just frugal. Yeah frugal, that's it.

I was a little confused by the link as well, but finally figured out to click the "for sale by owner" link at the left. It is kind of funny, that car is less than 5 miles from my house and this is the first time I had even seen it for sale. Must not have advertised in the OKC paper.

Yeah, I should have been a little clearer on how to work the link. I'm getting the diesel not the gasser. Owner has a web hosting business so he went to the net to advertise first. Car was supposed to be on the cover of some cars-for-sale book recently.

Ok, that looks pretty rough. With those sagging seat nets and all. You should just pick it up and drive it down here and donate it to my favorite charity--me.

Actually looks great. Good luck.

Yeah, I'm gonna make up a whole grocery list of things I need to fix, replace, etc. Actually looks like it will be a short list. And I'm getting all the maint. records going back 13 years!

The new beast is home! Total time from picking up car till arriving at home: 20 hours. Total distance:854 miles. Average speed: 42.7 MPH (and that includes 6.5 hrs at hotel and another 45 minutes at AutoZoo trying to get a wiper blade). List of things to repair/replace is gonna be longer than I like, but so far car looks ok. Pictures to come when it stops raining.

Well if you just drove it 854 miles it can't need that much, it sounds like a nice car. I had the same problem finding wiper blades, I ended up buing the two of the Bosch 22" assemblies, they fit right on and are about $12.99 each.
