Malfunctioning front seatbelts
Every once in a while, the seat belts (both front ones) will lock-up when pulling them out. It's not the same position each time and they've always *fixed* themselves after leaving them alone for a while.
When they're stuck, they won't pull out any farther and will not retract either....they're just stuck at some random position. When it happens, we've just gone about our business and when we go to get back in the car and go somewhere, they've un-stuck themselves. It's happened again, but this time it's taking longer than usual to fix itself. So, I'm wondering in anyone has any info or tips on this. I know these belts are the pyro-assisted versions (have airbag)....which makes things a little more complicated AND more $$$. |
Buy New Belts Pronto
If I were you, I'd stop asking why that's happening and buy new belts. Consider their malfunction a friendly warning that worse things are to come in regards to the belts working when/the way they should. Seat belts are never something you try to repair, you always replace them.

I had the same problem. After I lubed the retractors I never had the problem again. It's real easy to do it. Just move the seats where you can see the center pillar covers, remove the screw at the bottom and pull the cover down and out.
