W123 300D drip rail/rain gutter moldings

Anyone know of a safe way to remove the drip moldings from a 300D? I've got a lot of crud in them and the worst is at the rear pillars. I've searched through the CD FSM and I couldn't find anything. Has anyone ever found a way to get them off?

I could probably figure out how to remove the plastic part but what concerns me most is the aluminum part that is fastened on the the rails. I'm venturing a guess no one has tried to take them off before or has been successful.
