Ignore the newbie lable I have been on the board for over a year. An idiot Mod on another forum kicked me off because I pointed out his bias.

Few things to try here. Which one do you have?

I had that problem with mine and solved it.

try this first. clean it out real well with radiator cleaner and flush extremely well.

Use 2 lbs of Cirtic acid ( 4 bottle at Mercedes dealer) run that for the recomended time. and flush extremely well.

If that does not solve the overheating you may need to replace the thermostate, and possible the waterpump. If all else fails you may need to have radiator rodded out or recored. or replaced.

Thermostat and a good cleaning took care of my problem. A 1979 300SD W116 Turbodiesel. Oh, and make sure to use the CORRECT antifreeze, not the green prestone.

Make sure you check the other stuff first, but if it's not getting it, try replacing your tranny fluid. Mine's running cooler after doing it.

The first thing I'd do is replace the thermostat which is cheap and easy to do. Good Luck.

I would at lease combine that with a flush because its easier to flush when the thermostat is out.

And odds are it may have been neglected in its life or even if it wasn't it may be time.

Could you offer more information? Is it only at slow speeds in traffic? Is it overheating at highway speed? What temperature is the gauge showing?

Good luck,

The green prestone type stuff is bad for your motor.

Mercedes has the right stuff and there is an alternative but I best not say what I think is is in case I am wrong.

Think it's bad for the radiator, not the engine. The orange kind is what your looking for, Zerex maybe is the non-Mercedes alternative?
