Any reccomended Mechanics Near B'ham, AL

Hi Everyone-
Doing my best to joint the club by acquiring a MB diesel. We currently own 2 TDI's an 02 Jetta and an 04 PD Jetta Wagon. Wanting to move into MB land by selling my Jetta and getting a Benz.

Was wondering if any of ya'll are from AL and could reccomend an independent mechanic here in Birmingham. Well that is about it, I've done a scan of the archives and am a bit overwhelmed by what I need to learn, but from the looks of it I am going to need a bigger garage, casue I am going to NEED (this will be a tough sell to the wife) a w123 and w124.

Thanks and any advice you have please shout my way.

-Lance

I go between Huntsville,AL and Starkville,MS quite often. So I can suggest a mechanic in huntsville, and one to *not* go to in starkville, but can't help you out in B'ham....

Just a suggestion, but as hot and *muggy* as it gets in this area an R12 A/C system will be a major selling point. That will make all the difference between coolish air coming out and having a real A/C system.

G'luck in your hunt!! Take your time and buy the right car!

When I lived in B'ham I went to Detlaf's ******** (sp??). He seemed to be o.k. but I really don't know too much about him. You might want to check him out though.

The place is Southside Motors... has been in the same location and same ownership for 48 years. I went there to get the front lower ball joints replaced. Excellent work, and since he had never seen the car before he put the car on a lift and gave me an overview of the mechanical condition of the car. Told me some things I needed to get taken care of, future problems, commented on what was good, etc.

When he put my car on the lift I noticed numerous *NICE* diesel mercedes all about, a F250 diesel truck, a very recent and nice Porsche, and some VWs.

They are located at 201 8th Street and their number is 256-536-1878

I have a friend who lives in B'ham and has a 87' 560SEL. He gets his SEL serviced at "The Mercedes Doctor." They're located at 100 Morrow Ave. Trussvile, AL 35173 (205)-661-5880
I hope this helps.
