painted wheel covers vs. bundts

I swapped out the steel wheels and painted covers for a set of V8 bundt cake alloys, but on a 108 chassis, not a 123 (so I won't clutter the thread with non-123 pics...!)

Functionally, the alloys are way better, so much less unsprung weight on the suspension. The difference in weight between a steel wheel and its cover compared to the alloy is quite remarkable- I was amazed when handling both, sans tires.

Maybe I should post a bundt vs. painted cover poll, chassis independent...

Oh, and my 108 is maple yellow, looks darker than the 123 a few posts back in this thread.

I lost my Maple yellow in an accident also..

I think the Maple car had bad Karma from Day 1. I found court notices and Divorce papers in the Tire Well...I mean I rebuilt the engine, tranny, you name it, it kept on breaking and breaking

My Silver One has Good karma, when I pulled up the rear seat once to work on the stereo, I found bubble gum wrappers, kids stuff, all kinds of quarters and nickels,.indicating a happy Family owned this car once... The bumper sticker had "Private Pilots Association" which is why I bought it on the spot even though it didnt have a title--I mean what Pilot doesnt take care of machinery....The car was in a Salvage Yard because it had been hit in the rear, I bought it for $200 for the engine and realized the car still had plenty of Life in it..

Sometimes I wonder who the previous owners of my cars are...
I do believe cars have karma.

Jas2wa-

Props on the upgrade to the bundts on your 108!!
Would love to see pics!

(Im Erics friend from CA, was gonna sell you my 300DT.)

I will say to those who like the steel wheels with hubcaps, that I like them, and love them with tires that have a white stripe on the sidewall. I was at a carwash having my carpets shampooed, and a beautiful powder blue 300D non turbo was there, fully detailed and waiting for its owner to pick it up... it had the painted wheel covers, and white striped tires. Handsome.

IMO
I vote for hubcaps anyday too!!

To me, bundts make the car look thinner in profile, longer at any angle, and sportier all around. I like that. But the hub caps arent bad!

do wheels make it into a 6.3... if so I would put hubcaps on a 6.3 and make it into a real sleeper 250s....

Your w108 Is beautiful, and I dont think ive seen many in that color. Stunning. The wheels make it look like a 6.3, sporty but subtle.

I have a set of aftermarket alloy wheels on my '85. I almost made the mistake of wanting to sell them a while back. I have a set of bundts with snow tires on them and I had the wheels on the car last winter. To me it looked awful with the bundts so now there's now way I would ever sell my aftermarket alloys.

Yeah, I was wondering if you were going to remember them.
I still haven't bought a new set of tires yet...they're not bald enough!

LOOOVEEE THOSE painted hubcaps!!! can't get enough of them, I used to be a fan of the fancy wheels, but I got the nice hubcaps, I wish I could repaint them or pick up a set in maple yellow.
