air leak question-- handpump ?

Hello everybody. I have another 240d, '83 with 190,000, that Im converting to run on cooking oil.. It has the original "screw type" hand primer pump, that is leaking alot when being used. Im thinking this is where Im loosing my prime. She just won't run for very long, dies, and I have to get out and pump on the pump again. Please tell me its the handpump, thats the problem, not the liftpump. I have a handpump coming in monday. thanks.

I think I have heard that exact description of what happens when the hand pump is either leaking air... or one forgets to tighten it after pumping...

Yup, sounds like mine before I replaced it with the new model pump. Now it just take a couple of pumps and it's primed. This one doesn't have to be unscrewed before pumping. Can be found at the link below.
