Turbocharger bearing

The shaft on my turbocharger has a lot of play. Has anyone here tried to replace the bearing(s)?

Try a search, I think someone did this not long ago. Here's a link that should have the parts you need. http://64.225.76.178/catalog/Default.htm

I think you can get a cartidge with the shaft and bearings already balanced..... you just put your housings on it.

Did this about 6 mos ago on a KKK and a Garrett. Which bears do you need? I have some extra shaft bearings (new) for the Garrett and a good-used thrust for it.

Garret

It's a Garret. Haven't picked it apart yet. Would be nice with a exploded view chart, if anyone has a good link.

Think I'll have it dismantled before I order parts, will post back in a few days. I live in Norway, so wrong parts will be a hassle with shipping..

BKR,
Please rememebr that your turbo bearing is supposed to have quite a bit if up and down play, just not in and out play. I first thought the same thing, but then learned the hard way after I had bought a new cartridge and it had the identical up and down play.

bearing play

Didn't know that! How much up and down play is allowed? At some point the fan blades will hit the walls, and then...

I thought your suppose to be able to push and pull it out some, but not have any vertical/horizontal play? Always willing to learn...
Thanks
David
