Everything works on my 300cd, although it has a R134A conversion. It delivers just fine for Wisconsin (by the way, all those Sun Belt folks out there who love to gloat in January should know the temp has been topping out in the upper 70s here the last few days...Ahhhhhhhh. Low humidity, too.)

The driver's side map pocket was broken (OK, I broke it) so I got a new one. New cushion and backrest pads in the seats.

Back speakers blew a couple years ago, replaced them with Diamond Audio M3 units and some little Sony speakers up front. The Becker is long gone -- I have a cheap Audiovox head unit.

Dash is crackly. Oh well.

On my '82 wagon I had the Auta 6000u antenna working for about a year but the kluge I had worked in the head finally gave out. Damn.

The only option seemed to be the $160 Hirschmann Auta 6000KE because it's the only one available through Worldpac with a 64 degree mount for the wagon fender contour. However, literature with the unit indicates the 64 degree adapter (Auta 8264) also works with the Auta Flex 3000 and the HIT Auta 5061/5091. I know the HIT Auta units can cost less than other models...on the other hand, the 6000KE was plug and play.

I also replaced the diaphragm in the center vent actuator recently with replacement rubber from Autolux MB --best deal on the planet for $5 plus shipping. Then my AC stopped blowing. Blower motor needed new brushes. I got $100 worth from a local factory and sold off the spares.

Blaupunkt aftermarket speakers in the rear door panels were wrecked, so I replaced them with some Panasonics with vinyl cones.

Last but not least, a new 116 cushion pad for the driver's seat and a junkyard springox from Tristar Pete. So ...yes, EVERYTHING WORKS!!!

Well I've only had my '81 240D for a few weeks but so far the only thing that I have found that does not work is the cruise control. It's an after market unit ...parts of the factory unit where removed...that took a few times under the hood to figure out what was missing..seeing linkage attachments with nothing on them and all. The stereo is also an aftermarket kenwood CD...sounds great!

The A/C is 134A and blowing cool...most likely will be going back to R12 this weekend.

The interior is all intact and looking good. New driver seat upolstrery a little less than 2 years ago as well as a $1700 paint job... the dash has a couple of small cracks but other than that it is really quite pristine...a couple of vacumm issues that I am going to ask about in another post but all related to shifting...the locks and all work fine...the door pillars are wrinkled and the weather strip is showing a little age but hey for $1000 it is not going to be perfect.... It's only been 3 weeks but I think I'm in love....and 4 weeks ago I wanted nothing but Volvos!

Oh and MAKI I've been to Wisconson (alot) I honestly hope that summer comes on a weekend for ya, so you get to enjoy it... I have been here 14 years( from Maine) and I have never had to shovel the heat out of the driveway

Uh, Mudduck, you'r smiley is lookin' a little sunburned...

Yeah, it's true you don't have to shovel heat, but you can always put more clothes on when it gets cold -- you're limited in the number you can take off... at least in public.

I've been to Maine, liked it a lot. It reminded me of Michigan's Upper Peninsula.

Sounds like you got a deal on the 240D.

Envious....

Hi I am Carrameow, I started this thread. I am stuck down here in South New Jersey which is starting to fill up like Northern New Jersey which is like NYC. The roads are very crowded, its stressed out and getting expensive...
.I have often dreamed of living in Maine, Wisconson or New Mexico..I know what you mean about not Shoveling Heat, but here in the summer it gets so Humid and Sticky it feels like you are wearing a Fur Coat that just went through the washing machine..Its not fun for working on Cars
I am starting to wonder what the LIFECYCLE of the W123 will be, sometimes even the 300D turbo cant manage the cars with V6 DOHC option that everyone has now,,seems everyone is packing a 250 hp engine that needs $50.00 a tank..here in SJ it seems every middle aged lady with a distemper or late for the Mall is running me off the road...

No need to feel envious, Carrameow -- here in Wisconsin we have a town to our south called Chicago that is turning our southern counties into suburbs...

I haven't had much trouble keeping up with the traffic here with my W123s, but the highway cops in Wisconsin see speed control as a top-notch revenue source. They use the proceeds to buy all the toys, too -- laser guns, instant-on radar, nonstandard, unmarked patrol cars. I've gotten a ticket or two myself over the years, but I have to say the heavy hand keeps the highways pretty sane.

Everything mechanical and electrical functions as it should on both cars EXCEPT FOR the vacuum door locks on the 300TDT w123, which have been isolated from the rest of the vacuum system long, long, long ago...

Everything on my car works except for the A/C and cruise control, it just slams the pedal to the floor when you turn on the cruise I'll tend to it eventually......I've survived this long just fine, and I did 7500 miles of driving this summer.... My foot is like a human cruise acutator on the freeway, it automatically makes minor adjustments for hills and descents.

Everything on my 300D works as originally designed; expect I have added an after-market sound system and a remote entry/alarm system. I've also replaced the 85 mph speedo with a 125 mph, and converted to 134a.

The 240D has everything working originally (after-market sound system), but the cruise control is still a little glitchy. The driver's seat belt latch is cracked, that's next.

LOL, Come to New England. Plenty of rust but the door frame moldings are wrinkle free Perhaps all that road salt preserves them....maybe that or the intermittant

Had to clean the rheostat for the dash lights. The only thing left to fix is the CC. There's some good site info that should help me out.

After a fire in the dash, an engine swap, a transmission swap..

..............the car is back in Full Service! and every feature works except the fiber optics lighting on the row of switches on the middle panel..THE AC was awesome--after six months of being idle, I flipped it on, expecting a seized compressor, and it was so cold it wasnt funny! The funniest thing is now I fully understand every feature of the 300 design after a new engine, trans, wiring haness............
