300sd just died

Hello I have an 83 300sd which had a rough idle when stopped at a light however once the pedal is pressed it smooths out, today the car began to hesitate and it stumbled a little and then just died. it cranks and the engine turns over and I am able to rev it up once it turns over but once i let off the throttle it just dies. The car at times stays on and it runs a little but then it just does not accelerate and it just shuts down. The car has just over 135,000 miles. any help is greatly appreciated.

sounds like interrupted fuel flow... make sure the primer pump is screwwed down, then make sure no bubbles- maybe change fuel filters, then maybe the screen in the tank... but it sounds like you're running some air thru the lines... go ahead, ask me how I know...

I assumed it had something to do with the fuel delivery, I cleaned out my banjo yesterday, changed out the air filter. I was afraid I messed up the car somehow. Thanks for the post.

I don't know if you checked your tank filter but I had a similar problem and the tank filter looked like a gob of tar when it was removed. Fixed that and the car ran fine.

that is pretty ugly. I added an additive into my tank to raise the cetaine, wonder if that loosened any gunk I may have had in there.

moxwell - any chance you're using biodiesel? that stuff will clean out the tank and dump all the goo into your filters... cetane additive or not. but the engine loves it after you change the filters to new... I'm assuming SoyDriverMatt had this problem after changing over and produced the above pic...
