240D at the post office

I pulled into a parking spot at the post office, ran in to check my PO box, came out and there is a old 240D sitting next to my car idiling.. I check it out, it's red with black interior, 4-speed odometer shows 365k miles.. I get in my car and wait for the owner. Older guy in a suit and tie comes out, so I say "nice car!!" he says yeah, its falling apart, but I love it! I say I have an 82 300D.. he asks how many miles.. I say mine is just a baby with 220k. He says oh wow, this car has over 650,000 miles.. odometer stopped working years ago.. this is my 2nd car, my 300D is always in the shop he added. We said goodbye and he went on his way. Just thought it was a cool story!

Cool! So is the Ford a garage queen now with the high gas prices?

The ford is my daily driver.. gets about 20-22mpg if I keep my foot out of it.. gotta have the A/C in the recent weeks. My girlfriend is borrowing the 300D.. taught her how to drive a manual trans a few weeks back and she loves the damn thing.

The 4.6 runs on regular 87 oct, doesn't it?

At least its no 560(as far as fuel requirements).

Oh, and a 240D with 650K miles? Certainly not unheard of.

How many badges does he have on the grille?

Actually I'm not really as surprised as I used to be. Now a Kia with 650k on it...

Yup. 87 is the only thing that goes in it.. cheapest I can find is around $1.95/gal around here. Diesel on average is around $0.30 cheaper that regular. Makes me want a 98-99 E300.

Ah, the prices for those diesels haven't dropped yet. Blast it.
