RR oil cooler lines
I have looked at changing the oil cooler lines on my SD. I have decided to try a modefication. I have removed one fitting and found that it is regular metric bull nose fittings. So I had my lines made out of 2 wire Hydro lines with 90' fittings on the ends. I will not have to raise the engine and spend all day on a 300000 mile car that is not worth that kind of time. Will let you know the out come. My leaks on the old lines are beyond a drip now.

Won't you have to raise the engine to access the "hard to get to" line anyway?

Well I did change them
It took 1.5 hours to do the job. Could have done it in less time but I let the lines drain longer then needed. I unhooked them then I sawed them next to the block then I could remove them. The hydro lines worked out very well. I will take some pics and try to post them.

Please take a look at my previous post. I am very interested in understanding exactly what you did and what fittings you used and additionally, what are "2 wire hydro lines". Could you provide some part numbers and explain the conversion in more detail? Thanks, |

check your local hydralic supplier for fittings. Any stronger hyd. line could replace the hard lines- FC332 for example, or FC232. (these are flexible medium pressure lines) If you find a junk yard and remove one fo the end fittings and take it to them they will be able to replacate it with a 90 or whatever you want.

Let me see if I understand this correctly. You measured the pressure fittings, they turned out to be a regular size, you then went to a hydraulic shop and had flexible lines made out of hydraulic hose that has 2 wires in it, had 90 degree fittings attached so the hose will bend properly and not get cut by the belts in the engine, and then, cut your tubes, undid them (easier when cut or taken apart, no jacking necessary), attached the new, custom lines (easy because they are flexible) and voila, done in 1.5 hours?
What size was the fitting? Does anyone see why this wouldn't work in an SD? This topic has been discussed before in the archives, but this is more recent and a little different. |
