Diesel injector return lines
Why do IDI Diesels have fuel return lines? Why doesn't the residual fuel wait in the feed line like in a K-Jet system?

My guess is that since the IP is constantly pumping it needs to have the excess fuel returned to the tank otherwise something would probably blow.
Just a wild educated guess on my part.

IIRC
.The injector bleed lines (return lines) are required to assist in the closing of the injector nozzles, to stop injector dribble. It also assists in the bleeding of air from the injectors. The injector pump also requires to have any air removed, as an accumulation will give problems. Some people also talk about the high flow return, from some IP makes, being used as a coolant for the IP.

I've been told that the fuel flow past the injectors and back thru the overflow lines lubricates the injectors.
