vacuum port?

There is what appears to be a small vacuum port on the intake of my 87 603. It's on the drivers side in the center of the intake just below a sensor. I don't remember any vacuum line here nor can I find anything disconnected (I had the intake off). Can anyone explain what this is? The car is running fine by the way.
I will attempt to post a link to photographs.
Thanks, Brian

For future reference, might I suggest you attach the photo's to your post instead of some other place that has to be linked to.

Only say this cause six months or more from now some smuck will do a search on here looking for some answers. Answer's from this thread that would have made since if the pictures were still available. When photo's are attached here they should be available for a long arse time. Web pic posting sites have a history of going bye bye.

Here's to the smucks (like me) LOL

PS. Sorry I cant answer your question. I'll get off my stump now and shut up.

Uh oh! There SHOULD be a vacuum line running from that port to the overboost sensor, which then runs to a Y fitting at the ALDA! With nothing connected, you will have performance equivalent to a NON TURBO diesel!

In the last picture, follow the plastic line with the red stripe. It should end at a device with two fittings; one for the line with the red stripe, the other for a line that should connect to the nipple on the intake manifold.

Thanks Guys,
I found it. I had accidentally covered it with the washer bottle when I put everything back together. Yes it did make a difference in acceleration. Before I tanked my intake it was coated with sludge inside, I wonder if the sludge had clogged this vacuum port? In some places it was 3/8" thick. I scooped it out of the valve ports with a spoon before shop vacuuming them out! I found the problem was my EGR was actually recirculating some of the exhaust gasses!!! I fixed it with a block off plate.

By the way CoachGeo I wanted to post those photos in my post but I don't know how. I'd also like to put a photo of my freshly painted 124 under my screen name.

below pic tells you how to attach a file (sorry it is so big) but smaller makes the words jumble. How to put an avitar over to the left escapes me at the moment. It is in the personal settings/ options somewhere. Think you have to be a SR. member (over 100 post?) before you can do it.

I was able to use a private file Avatar with less than the 40 posts I currently have....can't remember how I did it, but I think I just did a copy and paste.

It will have to be a specific size (measured in pixels, if my memory serves correctly).

It's in your "User CP" area.

Yes CoachGeo I tried that but I get a message that says "The file uploaded is not a gif or a jpg file. Please make sure that it is and try again." My file name looks like this: hpim0217.jpg and it is located in my Hewlitt Packard Photo Manager file.
What am I doing wrong?

OK so I figured out how to get the file to upload, but now I get a message saying the file is too big. I tried to resize it with no luck. Maybe it's trying to upload the whole file with several dozen photos. I keep working on it.

ain't trial and error fun . Im sure you'll get it figured out. You can use the photo program that comes with windows to reduce the size rather easily. "Microsoft Photo Editor". You can dowload it for free but Im sure its on your system. Just open the picture in that program or something simular. Set the "view" to 100% so you see the true size. Crop it to the look you want using the "select" tool and ""crop" under the [Image] menu. Then under the same menu "resize" it down as a whole if you need to.

You'll be all puter picture savy before ya know it.

Dont forget to save it as a JPEG or Gif. JPEG takes less space I think.

.jpg is better for photos, gif is better for graphic images like a logo...
