RLeo Edmund OK help UPDATE

Thanks to those with suggestions about getting Randy home cool...
He started for home at 6:30 am this morning....
We realized from the begining that finding a voltage regulator in the middle of Oklahoma in the middle of a major Holiday weekend was a long shot at best...
He will make it fine... and with a better idea of which of his parts from his home stash he should take with him.... LOL
I will bet he never leaves his laptop or his voltage regulator at home again.... LOL

I guess that's the difference between Arizona and Oklahoma. When I wanted to bring the Austin-Healey to Alpine from Tucson (it was already running a little hot and the only AC is to leave the top down...) I had to leave at 4:00 a.m.

Sounds like Randy needs to reevaluate his spares kit?

Cheers,
Wes

His problem was the voltage regulartor... thus his electricity/battery was the concern... so he just chose the coolest time at which he did not have to use his lights and take a chance on running down the battery...

Update update...

Thanks to everyone who responded to Greg's 'call to arms' for me this weekend.

We left OKC about 6:30 am this morning and pulled into the driveway here in Austin right at 2:30. Only during the last hour or so of the trip did it get uncomfortably hot.

As it turns out, a voltage regulator would hot have fixed anything; I stabbed in a new one just a minute ago and it didn't solve the problem.

Now, a trip out to the parts car is in order...

Thanks again all!

If the voltage regulator didn't do it, don't throw that alternator on before checking the wiring. The connector with two large spade lugs on the alternator will often need some attention. You can peel off the plastic easily and inspect.

Good luck,

Will do that. Thanx for the tip.

I'm suspicious of the wiring since this apparently isn't the original alternator either; it has a Bosch Remanufactured sticker on it.

Am I correct in my intrepretation of the wiring diagram that all the hot wires (+12V) from the alternator and battery use one of the starter solenoid terminals (the + side) as a connection lug? It's hard to see that place on the turbo engine because of the heat shields.

SWMBO deserves a great deal of credit for enduring 7 hours of +65mph desert temperature wind without one complaint. Mind you, this is a woman who believes roughing it is staying somewhere that doesn't have room service.

We figured out a way to open the sunroof about 2" and jam the bill of a gimmie cap up through the opening. It worked sort of like a ram air scoop and kept the cabin temps fairly reasonable when at highway speeds.

"ram air scoop "
Sounds like a good sheet metal project....
if you made the curves right... it might store nested against the spare tire holder... or in it....

RLeo,

Good thing you were south bound....north bound I-35 traffic was stop and go for absolutely no reason ! ! !

I made the trip from RR to Hillsboro in 2.75 hours....was flying pretty good until about 5 miles south of Waco, then bumper to bumper on and off for eternity.

Got passed by a White 420SEL W126 doing a whole handfull of MPH...tried to keep up, but mama got concerned at 85mph.....

Anyways, glad to see you made it home.

I use my secret passage to get up to the Indian Territory and back. So, on holiday weekends, I don't even bother getting close to NAFTA Interstate Parking Lot 35.

Traffic on 35 was heavy southbound too, but I found everyone was very willing to get out of my way. Must have been the crazed look in my eyes from chowing down on Whataburgers again
