'97 300D Transmission ?
She has 118K; had it for the last 4K in miles.
Symptoms: Driving along at 70-75 MPH when I notice and slightly feel the engine RPM increase fromt he 2000 RPM range to the 3000RPM range. Seems to be shifting to the next lower gear. This lasts for 5-10 seconds then returns to the 2000 RPM range as was before. What may be causing this to occur? Ideas I could present to my wrench for a fix? TIA Bob |

Something doesn't seem right.
My 97 E300 runs 70mph at about 3000RPM and has since new when I bought it (now has 100K miles). I couldn't get it to run any lower RPM at that speed! Just to confirm I have the 4 spd with overdrive |

My car has the five speed transmission. It generally runs about 2800 RPM at 70 MPH

DD I, post this in the Tech Help section where it will be seen by the dealer techs. They hardly ever check this forum.
97 - your rpm range doesn't sound right. It should have the 5 speed 722.6 transmission. I noticed at lunch time today that mine runs less than 3000 rpm at 80mph.

Rick, you have a different differential, though(E300 turbodiesel).
3,000 at 70 +- 300 rpms should be the norm for the 3.46 diff. with 5th speed overdrive(722.6) electronic transmission.
