I finally have Cruise Control........or do I......

1984 300SD purchased with dead Cruise Control....would accelerate the car but would not hold speed.....

Then the dash quit working...no guages at all....check all fuses and they looked great....climbed under the drivers side to see what I could see....figured I'd remove the Cruise amplifier while I was at it....heh....yeah....right.....all I got off was the cable connector...need to do a lot more searching and reading before I try that one again.....anyways....plugged it back in, found the blown fuse afterall, replaced it and on the road again....

then last night, as I am want to do on occassion, I activated the Cruise and it held... Multiple starts and stops, in and out of car, shopping, etc. Worked every time I engaged it....had a dream of the post I was going to leave here today.....

Then this morning...no go....arghhhhhhhhh

Ok...I learned my lesson....gonna find that description of how to remove the amp.....open it, solder it....gonna have that post that I dreamt of or else ! ! !

I'll let ya'll know how it goes....

On the right side of the amp you'll see a bolt.. If I remember correctly its a 10mm. Its sort of tucked up in the brake pedal mechanism.. thats what you want.. don't worry about the screws.. you don't need to remove them.. Just that bolt.

Woo Hooooo

Appreciate the info James....

Believe it or not....it's working again tonight...

Not sure if it was because I did something wrong this morning or what, so I'll keep checking, but I do appreciate the scoop on removing this puppy.

My Fatmobile 3 has cruise - sometimes. The cruise doesn't work when the weather is cold, or until the interior has warmed up for a couple of hours.
I will pull it soon to resolder. That is no big deal as I have worked in the electronics industry for 35 years (oops, showing my age again )

Check the conections at the amp and the accuator. These pins/sockets like to come desoldered also. I had one come loose in the plug at the accuator and resoldered it and hasn't let me down YET(knock on wood). If it isn't there then you will need a 10mm socket with an extension to go around the brake pedal and then get to the screws after you unplug it and the seat belt warning relay.

Great information all.....

It's working this morning, so maybe it's good for a little while.

Personally, I would go back to no cruise if the ACC would go back to kicking in the AC compressor....it's really hot here in central Texas just now.....
